Great night of fights for WMMA

This past Saturdays night i saw two great fights in womens mma the first fight had Miesha Tate vs Julie Kedzie on the last fight of the undercard of Strikeforce: Rousey vs Kaufman what i think should have been on the main card. A back and forth war with Julie Kedzie in the 1st round stuffing the takedown and hitting Miesha with Knees, Punches, Head kick she pulled through the round and the 2nd round Miesha was able to take the back of Kedzie and control and do some damage. The 3rd round Tate take a Big Kick to the face and goes down Kedzie trys to finish the fight with a scramble Tate throws up a armbar and locks it in they struggle But Miesha secures the armbar and get Kedzie to tap at 3:28 of the 3rd round. A finish to a great back and forth battle in WMMA

The main event had The Champ Ronda Rousey take on Sarah Kaufman for the Strikeforce Women’s Bantamweight Title. Rousey had her game face on when walking to the cage normaly happy joking around Rousey walking to the cage her face as hard a stone ready to fight. Bell rigs to start the 1st round and Rousey takes the middle of the cage throwing some punches and getting Kaufman to go back on the cage then Rousey clinches with Kaufmann and then uses a inside trip to get Kaufman down to the ground with a couple of punches Kaufman turns and then Rousey starts the armbar with Kaufman trying to defend Rousey adjust and get the tap 0:54 secounds of the 1st round. After defending her title Ronda Rousey called out Cristiane Cyborg Santos saying “She is the champ and if she whats some come down to 135lbs”  This could set up a big fight with Rousey vs Cyborg but we have to wait until Cyborg can get licenced back from the CASAC. With a the great fights that took place this past weekend WMMA i think is on the up and up and can only get bigger and maybe we will see WMMA fight in the UFC.

UFC on FOX 5: Henderson-Diaz title fight, Gustafsson-Rua, Penn-MacDonald

(This story appeared in Wednesday’s edition of USA TODAY.)

Ultimate Fighting Championship’s lightweight title will be defended on network television.

USA TODAY Sports and MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) confirmed with UFC officials that current lightweight champion Benson Henderson (17-2 MMA, 5-0 UFC) will face Nate Diaz (16-7, 11-5) at UFC on FOX 5, which takes place Dec. 8 at a host site to be announced.

A light-heavyweight matchup between former champion Mauricio “Shogun” Rua (21-6, 5-4) and Alexander Gustafsson (14-1, 6-1) serves as the night’s co-feature, and a B.J. Penn (16-8-2, 12-7-2) vs. Rory MacDonald (13-1, 4-1) fight also has been rebooked for the card.

A fourth main-card fight is expected to be added to the FOX broadcast in the coming weeks.

Henderson headlined this past weekend’s UFC 150 event and scored the first successful defense of his title with a split-decision victory over Frankie Edgar, whom he also narrowly defeated in February to win the title. Despite the close nature of the rematch, UFC President Dana White immediately made it clear that Diaz, who was promised a title shot following a May win over Jim Miller, would get the next crack at the belt.

Rua returns to action following a victory over Brandon Vera earlier this month in UFC on FOX 4′s headliner. The Brazilian had an opportunity to earn a title shot against the winner of next month’s UFC 151 headliner of champ Jon Jones vs. Dan Henderson, but fellow ex-champ Lyoto Machida leapfrogged him with an impressive stoppage of Ryan Bader.

Rua now faces Gustafsson, who’s been inactive since an April win over Thiago Silva in his native Sweden. “The Mauler,” one of the light-heavyweight division’s top prospects, currently boasts a five-fight win streak. A win over a former champ would serve as a signature victory and propel Gustafsson to serious title consideration.

MacDonald and Penn, meanwhile, initially were slated to co-headline next month’s UFC 152 event in Toronto. However, MacDonald suffered a cut in training that required 38 stitches, and the bout was postponed.

Penn, a former two-division champ and future UFC Hall of Famer, hasn’t fought since a loss this past October to Nick Diaz at UFC 137. The young MacDonald, meanwhile, recently posted a dominant second-round TKO of Che Mills in UFC 145′s co-headliner in April, which marked his third consecutive victory.

UFC on FOX 5 is the fourth and final UFC event to air on network TV this year. by John Morgan on Aug 15, 2012 at 1:00 am ET

Donald Cerrone, Melvin Guillard and Dennis Bermudez each earned $60,000 bonuses

Donald Cerrone, Melvin Guillard and Dennis Bermudez each earned $60,000 bonuses for their performances at Saturday’s “UFC 150: Henderson vs. Edgar II” event – and Cerrone, the hometown favorite in Denver, picked up a coveted double bonus.

Cerrone earned the “Knockout of the Night” award, Bermudez won “Submission of the Night” and Cerrone and Guillard picked up “Fight of the Night” honors.

UFC officials announced the winners and bonus amounts following the event, which took place at Pepsi Center in Denver. The event’s main card aired on pay-per-view following prelims on FX and Facebook.

Cerrone and Guillard fought as much of a back-and-forth fight as can take place in a mere 76 seconds. After Cerrone missed a head kick just seconds into the fight, Guillard caught him and sent him reeling toward the fence. He moved in looking for knees and appeared to have “Cowboy” on the ropes. But Cerrone survived the barrage and after regaining his composure, he landed a left high kick that just grazed Guillard’s head – enough to wobble him. And from there, Cerrone landed one big knockout punch that ended the fight.

Bermudez closed out the preliminary card on FX with a standing guillotine choke against Tommy Hayden as the first round neared completion. Bermudez, a featherweight finalist on Season 14 of “The Ultimate Fighter,” had to survive a knee to the head from Hayden and recover. But when he did, he landed a kick to Hayden’s chest that pushed him backward, and when Hayden went for a takedown, Bermudez was able to latch onto the fight-ending choke. The submission was the only one on the 10-fight card.

For Cerrone, the rare double gives him six post-fight bonus awards in his seven UFC fights. He also had five bonuses in his 10 fights in the WEC. Guillard’s opponents have now picked up stoppage bonuses in his past four losses – though this was the first time in his career he has been knocked out.
